Patient care: Examine patients mouths for dental issues, such as tooth decay or gum disease, and document their findings. They also perform dental cleanings, removing plaque, tartar, and stains.
Treatment: Apply sealants and fluorides to help prevent cavities, and perform other procedures like scaling, root planing, and polishing. They may also administer local anesthetics and place medicaments to treat periodontal disease.
Education: Teach patients how to brush and floss properly, and counsel them on oral health and nutrition.
Record keeping: Create and maintain dental treatment charts and records, and document patient care and treatment plans.
Radiography: Take and develop dental x-rays, and read and interpret the results.
Sterilization: Clean and sterilize dental instruments and equipment, and maintain them in good working order.
Scheduling: Schedule dental appointments and maintain appointment records.
Treatment room management: Check the treatment room for cleanliness and make any necessary changes.
